The Comprehensive Screen

The Comprehensive Check offers you all of the recommended screening tests. It also gives a detailed 'snap shot' of your current health.

This examination is the most thorough examination that we offer. You do not need a referral from your GP. The examination takes approximately two hours with a follow up consultation of 30 minutes.

We will ask you about any concerns you have at present, your past medical problems and problems that members of your family have had (your family history). In addition we will:

  • Ask you about your lifestyle - diet, exercise, relaxation, smoking and alcohol

  • Ask you to complete a computer scored psychological test to help to identify any potential or existing psychiatric or psychological problems.

  • Carry out a full physical examination. As part of this examination you will be offered a rectal examination to identify rectal cancer and, in men, prostate abnormalities. Women will be offered a breast examination, pelvic examination and if appropriate,a cervical smear test and chlamydia test.

  • Carry out these investigations:

  • Check your urine for sugar, protein and blood. ( Urinalysis)
  • Lung Function Tests (PFT)
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG)
  • Screen for Glaucoma (IOP)

  • Send blood to the laboratory for the following tests:

  • Full Blood Count (FBC)
  • Kidney Function Tests (RFT)
  • Liver Function Tests (LFT)
  • Thyroid Function Tests (TFT)
  • Cholesterol (Lipid screen)

  • Men only - Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) - after discussion

We will use the information from the examination to calculate your risks of heart attack, stroke and diabetes over the next ten years using the QRISK and QDScore algorithms.

When you come for your follow up appointment we will go through all of the results and advise you of any problems, and how you should tackle them. You will be provided with a written report of the examination and the results for your records, and we will forward a copy to your GP if you wish.
