The aim of the Health Check for Women is to see if you have any
risks for heart disease, stroke and breast cancer, and to screen
you for high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol.
The Isle of Man Health Service runs a very efficient cervical
screening service. If you are resident and between the age of 20
to 64, you should be contacted every three years to remind you to
make an appointment for a smear test with your doctor.
Women who are over the age of 50 are entitled to a free mammogram
to screen for breast cancer every two years, provided they are resident
on the Island. Provided you are registered with an Island GP you
should be sent an appointment after your 50th birthday. At present
there is no facility on the Isle of Man for women who are under
50 who have no breast symptoms to undergo mammography - if you have
concerns then you will need to see your GP who will advise you whether
or not you need to be referred to our local breast clinic for assessment.
You do not need a referral from your GP our health check, which
takes approximately 45 minutes and consists of:
Your Medical History:
- Your medical history including any health concerns that you
have
- Your family medical history, with particular attention to any
heart disease running in the family
